Ways to Help

There are three major ways you can help right now… (in no particular order)

1. BoyWonder Cupcake Day
Seriously, when doesn’t a cupcake make a day better? The proprietors of Ephemera (Karen & Arin) know this better than anyone. They have offered to host a Cupcake Day at their store (505 E. Locust, DSM – in the East Village) this Saturday from 10am-1pm.

Their announcement:

Time Saturday, January 22 · 10:00am – 1:00pm
Location ephemera
Created By ephemera stationery studio
More Info Baby Atticus decided to come into this world on January 16th, 2011, when his mama was just 24 weeks into her pregnancy. He weighed in at 1 lb., 10 oz. and, although tiny, he is proving to be quite mighty!

What we have come to love most about our little shop is the incredible amount of good energy that surrounds her. And all of that, dear friends, comes from the little community that YOU have made. We know that big and cool things can happen when we all get together with a purpose.

That said…

THIS SATURDAY, the 22nd, we will be hosting
CUPCAKES FOR A CAUSE!

In typical Cupcake Day fashion, we’ll have plenty of treats to warm a cold day. This time, though, the cupcakes will be all the sweeter as they will be baked with the intent of helping a bit with the expenses that this new little family is incurring. On Saturday, we invite you to grab a cupcake and, while you are merrily enjoying it, consider dropping a few dollars in our extra-fancy Boy-Wonder Donation Jar.

2. Sign up to deliver a meal. Email Jen Hanson at meetuporganizer@yahoo.com and let her know you would like to participate. Then log on to http://www.CareCalendar.org/logon/62945 (Calendar ID : 62945, Security Code : 8397 ) to find a date that works with your schedule. Then we get an email in the morning to let us know that dinner will be provided that evening. Super awesome system.

3. While our expenses are regular new parent expenses, it has been a flood (buying a pump, buying all the pieces to the pump, buying stuff to wash the pieces *double the amount for home and the hospital*), etc. Gift cards from Target and Babies R Us are really super helpful to help us defray costs. We’ve been asked a bunch of times to list out specific items we need and it is much more of an adventure than that… more like, “OH! We NEED that! Back to Target!”

My email is shanaraeray@gmail.com, Jared’s email is j.t.burns84@gmail.com and our address is 2904 Boulder Drive, West Des Moines, IA 50265.

We do have a registry on Babies R Us. You can find it by searching Registrant: Shana Ray (or Co-Registrant: Jared Burns) City: Des Moines State: Iowa.

A big shoutout to Tina Green, a friend from MN, that came down and cleaned our house and did our laundry. I cannot express how grateful I am to her. We knew it would be awhile before we got to it and so appreciated her major effort. Help comes in all sizes, and certainly isn’t just monetary.

Thank you all for your time and concern regarding our son.

Shana and Jared
